Color correction is the photo edit that makes colors match what your eye saw. It removes the orange, blue or green cast left by the light, sets the white balance so whites look white, evens out the exposure and keeps skin tones natural. A color cast is a tint over the whole photo, caused by the color of the light. Warm bulbs record orange, shade and cloud record blue, and some office lights add green. Your eyes adjust to the light in a room. A camera doesn’t. ### How does the fix know the right color? It looks for things that should be neutral, like a white wall, a gray sky or a white shirt, and balances the photo so they have no tint. Skin is a second check, because natural skin of every tone has a known balance of red, green and blue. ### Isn’t auto white balance enough? Usually it’s close. Camera auto white balance struggles when nothing in the frame is white or gray, or when one color fills the scene. Your eyes adjust to a room’s light, and a camera doesn’t. Warm bulbs give off much warmer light than daylight, so the camera records the room as orange. Cooling the white balance removes it. ### Why do photos taken under office lights look green? Some fluorescent and LED office lights add a green tint. Green runs on a different scale from warm and cool, so warming or cooling the photo won’t remove it. The fix takes the green out and leaves the rest of the color alone. ### What is white balance? White balance is the camera setting that decides what "white" looks like under the light you’re in. When it’s wrong, the whole photo gets an orange, blue or green tint. Color correction resets it after the photo is taken. ### Will it oversaturate my photo or change how it looks? No. Correction is about accurate color, not louder color. People, clothing, background, framing and sharpness stay as they were, and nothing is added or removed. ### Will skin tones look natural? Yes.
